Remember a few weeks ago, when we posted about our partnership with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a new eMentoring program for Aboriginal youth?
Well, that very same program has been selected as 1 of 16 finalists for the Changemakers Initiative: Inspiring Approaches to First Nations, Métis and Inuit Learning.
The most exciting part is that the awards are given based on community opinion. This means that voting determines who receive the awards. This is an great way to involve the public and have them acknowledge amazing work in their community.
Please show your support by voting online for eMentoring BEFORE March 21, 2012.
Also, please spread the word to your co-workers, friends, family and your social networks. We hope you take this opportunity to help icouldbe.org and UBC achieve another eMentoring milestone!
TO VOTE, simply:
– Visit: http://www.changemakers.com/fnmi-learning/finalists#tab-section
– Scroll down to find “Aboriginal eMentoring BC” in the list of 16 finalists and click on the checkmark
– You will be asked to create an account by filling in some basic info OR by signing in via your Facebook account (both are quick and easy)
– If you create an account, you will get an email requesting you to confirm your vote by clicking on a URL
Please also pass on this message and post the voting link on your Twitter or Facebook: http://www.changemakers.com/fnmi-learning

We’re happy to announce that Ann McNulty Ammerman is the winner of our giveaway: one free night’s stay at Vermont’s beautiful Essex Resort & Spa!
Please email Alicia at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
Thank you so much for your support of NY’s campaign for a new local mentoring program!
Last week we introduced a contest to win Lake Champlain Valentine’s Day Chocolates. (By the way, there’s still time to enter to win this gift – a value of $50.) All you have to do is go to our campaign site and donate just a $1 to your state to be entered to win. If you donate $2, we’ll enter you twice – and upwards, to a maximum of 100 entries for only a $100 tax-deductible donation.
We will continue giving away some really great prizes that have been donated by a few really generous companies. Here’s a list of products we’ll be offering for giveaways in the coming weeks:
Each week, we will choose one random winner from the pool of donors to our 50 State Campaign.
Keep checking back to our blog, because we’ll continue to add great prizes that you could win with only a $1 donation!
Where is your donation going? When you make a donation to your state through our 50 State Campaign, you are helping us that much closer to bringing icouldbe.org’s online mentoring program to kids in need right in your home state. Each state only needs to raise $8,000 to bring icouldbe.org into the lives of kids who need caring adults in their lives. When your state raises the $8,000, you get to vote for the school you thinks deserves the program most.
Online mentoring can work to decrease the nation’s dropout rate – and we know there are schools in every state that need our program. Won’t you make a donation today?

The 4th annual Mashable Awards are well underway, and this year we’re trying to get in on the fun! icouldbe.org is nominating ourselves for “Must Follow Non-Profit” – hey there is no shame in tooting your own horn, right? Here are just three reasons why we think we deserve a nomination:
- icouldbe.org brings ONLINE mentoring to at risk teenagers across the United States
- icouldbe.org surrounds each student with a team of five caring adults to help them do well and persist in high school, explore careers, prepare for college and learn to manage finances.
- We are in the process of launching a nationwide social campaign to raise awareness and funds so an icouldbe classroom can be found in all 50 states
Mashable is an online publication that reports news in social and digital media, technology and web culture. They currently have over 30 million page views per month. Previously, the awards were called The Open Web Awards. For more details on the awards, click here.
To nominate icouldbe, click here. You have to act quick, as submissions will be accepted only until November 29, 2010. You can nominate in each category once per day.
Thanks for your consideration.
Chase is enlisting Facebook users, now totaling more than 300 million, to vote for small and local nonprofits to receive donations totaling $5 million. The eligible charity receiving the most votes will be awarded $1 million, the top five runners-up will receive $100,000 each and the 100 finalists, including the top winners, will be awarded $25,000 each.
Everyone is able to vote for a total of 20 charities – why not use one of your votes for icouldbe.org? Icouldbe has helped over 15,000 students get mentoring to discover and reach their career and educational dreams – we’d love to help another 15,000 more this year.
